Long story short: we’re caught up on orders–we’re now shipping orders within one to two days of receiving them.

Long story long: it took a LOT of doing! Planning rare seed grow-outs, getting seed in and writing descriptions was only the beginning!

To get the 2010 Pure Seed book out earlier, it had to be designed and laid out earlier, which is a pretty major undertaking all by itself.

Then, this season we went to a completely new format for the website, rareseeds.com, building it from the ground up. That includes a new shopping cart, which had to be tested and which required a little fine-tuning.

New colored packets for virtually every variety, creation of an enhanced wholesale program to get our seeds into the hands of retailers coast-to-coast, moving every bin in the store to accommodate the new line of seeds–it was work, work, work around Bakersville.

But now it’s done. There’s plenty of details left to go, but everything is in place for 2010. And we’re glad to do it, because it means putting more heirloom, open-pollinated varieties than ever before, into the hands of gardeners all over the world.

We’re glad to do it, but we’re sure glad it’s about done!

I have been looking for the very old type of purple hull peas, not the pinkeyed ones. Do they still exist and if so where can I get them.
    Thank you,

Just put in my seed order online at your store. I haven’t even been to your site since early spring. I love the new lay-out! Shopping here was easier than ever. I’m one of those stuck out in the boonies (wouldn’t have it any other way) with only dial-up available, and the way your site is set up saved me a lot of time, not having to load a gazillion different pages. In particular I like the +/- folder-type arrangement for categories. Also, I like just clicking “add to cart” and it updating the simple “cart” in the corner, without having to reload the page or load a whole new page. Very nice! Everything has a nice, uncluttered, simple appearance, yet all the info I needed was right there and it was easy to find my way around. Good job!

Now, I just got my catalog in the mail. The kids and I will peruse it and enjoy every page while planning our second order!

I love what you folks are doing and am with you all the way.

Probably not the best way to go. 2010 catalog supersedes the previous year–lots of new items, some dropped, price changes, etc.

If you prefer not to wait for the 2010 catalog, I’d suggest shopping at the website, even if you prefer to call in or mail in your order. That way you’ll be choosing from what’s available currently!

Beautiful Catalog, I’m ready to order tomatoes and much more…. was looking for a collection of tomatoes, I could have sworn I saw four tomato collections on the site before the new format. Am I crazy?

I recently received your ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC catalog (insert enthusiastic applause here!!) Thank you so much for all of your hard work, I’m a new farmer (just moved in November 3d). It’s been a dream of mine to get to grow organic heirloom vegetables and fruit, and thanks to you I will be able to make that dream a reality in 2010.

PS — I found you by way of Gayla Trail at YouGrowGirl.com

Wilma, we do offer another purple-hull type, at least online. It’s Old Timer Purple Hull and you can read more about it here:
