Orange Fleshed Purple Smudge Tomato

Description
80-90 days. The most unique tomato I have seen in many years, this stunning tomato is a vibrant, tangerine-orange with shocking true purple splashed in various amounts over its upper half. I loved photographing these beauties, as they always stand out and look so artistic and ornate with their flattened shape, ribbing and brilliant color! This is one of the few domestic tomatoes that have true purple pigment, although research is being done with wild purple tomatoes. These have a nice sweet, mild and fruit-like taste that make them good for snacking or cooking. Fruit weighing 4-10 ounces were produced in abundance and tended to get more purple as the season progressed. Our most talked about tomato from our 2008 gardens. Limited seed supply.

No Purple 11/07/2010 21:11:49

Cons:

I grew these in Phoenix Arizona. They produced the most out of 16 varieties, but I didn't get any purple smudge, just orange. Maybe its because of the heat? I have to use a shade cloth over my tomatoes.

Grew these last season and they never delivered the color in the pics. The taste wasn't that good either. Very disappointed.

I think they deserve another try 10/04/2010 19:58:18

Pros:
Cons:

I grew these on the balcony of my apartment in a hanging basket, and while the plant seemed happy, I never got anything bigger than a cherry sized tomato. Like the other reviewers I found the flavor and texture leaving something to be desired. I think I will give them another try this year, to see if it wasn't just the planting method I used.

Pretty but not tasty 20/01/2010 14:04:01

Cons:

I couldn't wait to grow these weirdos. They were very pretty, prolific and unusual, but they were grainy and tasteless.

Pretty.... 25/12/2009 12:32:23

Pros:
Cons:

An absolute eye catcher, one of the prettiest tomatoes. Just not that great in the taste/ texture department. Very soft. Could make a decent cooking tomato, didn't like it as a fresh slicer.
