Jimmy Nardello Italian

PP143

This fine Italian pepper was grown each year by Giuseppe and Angella Nardiello, at their garden in the village of Ruoti, in Southern Italy. In 1887 they set sail with their one-year-old daughter Anna for a new life in the USA. When they reached these shores, they settled and gardened in Naugatuck, Connecticut, and grew this same pepper that was named for their fourth son Jimmy. This long, thin-skinned frying pepper dries easily and has such a rich flavor that this variety has been placed in "The Ark of Taste" by the Slow Food organization. Ripens a deep red, is very prolific, and does well in most areas.

Contains 25 heirloom seeds

Great Pepper Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

I grew these peppers this year for the 1st time, and they will be a part of my garden as long as I am able to tend a garden! These plants produced all year, and the peppers are excellent. Great for frying, also for drying. I dehydrated quite a few of these to add to soups and stews all winter long..

simply the best Review by darwinslair

If I could only grow one sweet pepper this would be it. Fresh eating, frying, roasting, simply cannot be beat. On top of that, with the cold summer of 2009 it produced exceptionally well. The thin skins mean you do not have to peel them to eat..

Best Pepper 2009 Review by Micycle

Overall Rating

This was by far our best sweet pepper of 2009. That being said 2009 was a horrible year for growing peppers here in S. Ontario. (Way to wet, and cool).

This pepper was very sweet, and had decent yields for being planted in ultra hard clay..

Best Sweet Pepper Review by Garden Girl

Hands down best sweet pepper we've grown. In the ground or grown in pots, this one is exceptional for flavor and ease of growth even here in New England. Good green or fully ripened to a glorious red..

First Pepper I really liked Review by Constant_Gardner

Overall Rating

I love growing peppers - such interesting plants. However, I personally don't really like the fruit - until this pepper. I specifically looked for peppers to try because I want to like to eat peppers. This pepper was so sweet with none of the usual pepper after taste that I don't like. I can eat them raw and stir fry them. It has a nice thin wall. This is the first pepper that I can actually say that I LIKE IT!.

Most Prolific Review by Garland

This is the first year we have grown this pepper. It lasted very well until the first freeze. Even then, the plants were loaded with peppers. These peppers are delicious. Of all of the pepper varieties we've grown over many years, this is the one I would rate as number one. We'll certainly continue to grow them as long as we have a garden..

This is my first year to grow this pepper and will continue to grow it in the future. Among my peppers, it was the first to set fruit and by far the most prolific. We LOVE these roasted (especially when mixed with yellow squash, zucchini, and onion). Definitely recommended!.
