Very Productive Pole Bean Review by Ft2Judy
Overall Rating
This is one of my favorite pole beans. The variety is very productive, easy to grow. The pods are easier to see on the vine versus the green-podded pole beans. Be sure to pick them early because they will get stringy if the pods get too large. Be sure to harvest almost daily as the beans mature fast especially in very warm temperatures. This variety does well in my raised beds growing on a trellis..

Great Pole Bean Review by Rob1020

This is my third year growing these, I love these beans. I grow about 30 to 40 plants and have a huge harvest for a few months in the summer. I give them away and eat them for dinner a few nights a week.
Around September I leave them alone and let them dry. I make a few batches of bean soup over the winter from them ( VERY good soup from these ) and save the rest for planting next year..

Purple podded pole bean success Review by Bob
Overall Rating
This is the first year we grew the Purple Podded pole beans and they were a real success and attention getter at the farmers market. We loved them young at about 4 inches, steamed. We also pickled about 20 quarts and were thinking how great they would be if they would retain their purple color after cooking. We canned and froze another 40 quarts. We tried them in casseroles and salads and all dishes turned out great. I will caution you about eating too many small pods raw as I tend to do when in the garden and the first crops are developing, it can lead to mild stomach distress. The 2-3 inch pods, to me, were irresistible right off the vine.
We trellised them on 16 foot heavy cattle panels supported by 3 "T" posts that keep the pods within easy reach but the plants would benefit from some extra height on the trellises. Next year I am going to add extensions to about 6 feet. We are now drying the beans for storage to use in various bean dishes and soups.
I wish we had the option of putting some pictures with the reviews..

So strong and vigorous--full on all the way across the garden! Had to get a friend to help harvest when I was out of town for just a couple days. I love the color too. So vivid!.

Easy to grow, easy to pick, delicious. I grew them on a simple 4-pole teepee and they proved to be a real back saver. I'll never grow bush beans again!.

Prolific and ornamental Review by Unknown

I planted these last year along 2 short sections of chainlink fence. I only had 4 plants come up, but the ones that did throughly impressed. One climbed a wire up the side of the house to over twice my 6' height and only stopped because the wire did. I left the beans on the vine to save as seed for this year, and after picking the dry beans, it set a second set of beans.
From the other 2 plants, I got buckets and buckets of beans. The beans themselves are beautiful, large, and reasonably tender even if left a few days too long on the vine. Their flavor was quite good as well..

This was my first time growing a purple bean - and I'm glad I finally did it. They taste great! They are stringless, and have stayed tender longer than the green beans ever did. Prolific..

Very Good! Review by Antonos

The plants were slow to start, but once they were a good 8 inches tall, they took off, sent vines everywhere. The yields were also good. If the birds didn't get to them, the plants would have definitely reached 7 foot high..

Great bean with multiple uses Review by Paul

I've grown and saved seed for this bean for 6 years now. They grow equally well climbing corn stalks or on trellises. Mine usually reach anywhere from 8 to 12 feet tall. I have to use an 8 foot trellis or tall varieties of corn like Bloody Butcher. The beans are good as snap beans, shelling beans and dry beans. This is also the most productive bean I've grown. We try to plant at least 50 plants (25 feet of row) to have enough beans to can, freeze, pickle and dry. I highly recommend that you grow this bean..

Awesome Pole Bean Review by Tamara

I had a 98% germination rate on the seeds. These produced beautiful plants with lovely purple flowers that grew incredibly tall and thick. These would have been been perfect in a flower garden! Heavy producers in both the early summer and again in the early fall. The deep purple beans are unbelievably long and flavorful and don't get stringy until they reach over 10". I picked many of them while they still had streaks of green but had surpassed 8" and they were very juicy and sweet right off the vine. I will definitely be planting these again next year!.
