| ARTICHOKE & CARDOON
Long-season plants that won't overwinter reliably north of Zone 7. Start indoors 2-3 months before last frost in spring, set out in very rich soil in full sun. Requires full sun, adequate moisture and frequent feeding of compost, manure tea, etc. Some growers expose young artichoke seedlings to two weeks of very cool (but not freezing) weather to simulate a winter's chill. This makes the plants more likely to produce artichokes the first year. Can be overwintered in warmer climates; mulch the crowns and cover with a basket to keep fairly dry. 25-75 seeds per packet.

Lovely, pointed, purple artichokes. So popular with chefs and is a sure seller at the finer markets. Purple varieties have been popular in Italy for hundreds of years and are more tender than green types. Needs a mild climate. We are glad to introduce this heirloom to the USA. 25 seeds.
