(C. pepo) The ethnic heirloom pumpkin of the Maori people of New Zealand; it is also known as Kumi Kumi pumpkin. New Zealanders say this is the best of all squash, for the young fruit can be boiled, fried or baked, and they have a rich, nutty flavor that is quite delicious. Let the green speckled squash ripen, and they are good as a winter squash. They have become rare even in New Zealand.

I am very excited to sample this squash. I have it growing in my garden and it is doing exceptionally well, the only problem is that I thought it was a bush variety and planted it in my small raised beds and is now taking over everything. The paragraph for the summer squashes says that they are all bush except zucchino rampicante. It is a large vine so plant this one were you have ample space..
