Prolific producer Review by mmhnto

Growing season 2010. Started these seeds indoors and had pretty good germination. Tomato plants produced earlier than the others I planted. Quite a bit of fruit. Flavor is mild (low acid) and a bit fruity. Cut up on a plate it almost looks like sliced mango. Puple smudge was there, but not as much as in the photos..

Beautiful, Prolific and Tasteless Review by Unknown

I too was excited to give these a try. The first one was ripe today. I tried it in a tomato sandwich that ended up in the compost bin. Since my garden tomatoes are a bit crowded this year, I cut this one down and composted the plant as well.
Pretty tomatoes but bad texture and taste..

last year these fruits were gorgeous with lots of purple color, but this season they were mostly plain orange. different seeds i guess? the taste was the same, average to good....sweet but not that exciting....these are definitely to be grown for their color, if and when it shows up!.

An absolute eye catcher, one of the prettiest tomatoes. Just not that great in the taste/ texture department. Very soft. Could make a decent cooking tomato, didn't like it as a fresh slicer..

I couldn't wait to grow these weirdos. They were very pretty, prolific and unusual, but they were grainy and tasteless..

I think they deserve another try Review by Unknown

I grew these on the balcony of my apartment in a hanging basket, and while the plant seemed happy, I never got anything bigger than a cherry sized tomato. Like the other reviewers I found the flavor and texture leaving something to be desired. I think I will give them another try this year, to see if it wasn't just the planting method I used..

Grew these last season and they never delivered the color in the pics. The taste wasn't that good either. Very disappointed..

No Purple Review by Unknown

I grew these in Phoenix Arizona. They produced the most out of 16 varieties, but I didn't get any purple smudge, just orange. Maybe its because of the heat? I have to use a shade cloth over my tomatoes..

Ok tomato-probably will not plant again Review by Sassysouthern

I was so excited to grow these tomatoes-however they did not produce anything like I thought they would. The plants came up well-the tomatoes took forever to come in. When they did get on the vine they were all orange with no smudge.....
Then in fall, the last of the tomatoes had light purple smudges-every tomato not just a few but every tomato. The summer tomatoes were all orange without any smudge but everyone of the fall tomatoes had the smudge.
I'm in the south-I wondered if the weather contributed to the lack/presence of color?
Anyway-the taste was OK. I like alot of other tomatoes better than this one so I'll use my garden space from some other tomato I like better. .

Prolific and cool-looking... Review by John

...but in Colorado in a garden with a dry mountain wind they tend to crack. The taste is a disappointment; starchy and pretty tasteless. But, they are unique looking..

Pretty AND tasty Review by sonjonay

Tried this tomato last year and it is my very favorite, and trust me, I plant MANY different kinds so I have plenty to choose from. This is the only tomato I devour while standing in the sunshine in the middle of my garden. I don't know why yours are so tasteless and mine are so good. Could be the fertilizer ( Aggrand, all natural) and it seems to produce much better flavored fruits and veggies..

Honestly loved this one! Review by Illia

I read all the reviews after buying the seed for this one and was afraid, but after waiting quite a long time to finally get some fruit, I must say, - I'm one of the few who loved it. Mine were indeed mealy in texture, but the flavor was perfect for snacking! They tasted like a nice, mild, sweet orange tomato with a hint of fruitiness while the purple had the earthy, smokey overtones of a normal purple tomato. A wonderfully perfect mix of flavors that makes an excellent little snacking tomato!.

disappointed! Review by Oaktown Garden girl

I bought this as a seedling at Baker Creek Seeds in Petaluma, completely sucked in my the fun name, but I was very disappointed in what I got out of it. The vine was huge and bushy but failed to produce much fruit, and honestly, what it did produce went into salsa or sauce, because it wasn't very flavorful, and tended to be mealy. The fruits themselves had none, or barely any purple smudge, so I am wondering if I possibly got a plant that didn't produce true, because this was a truly flavorless disappointment. This was a terrible weather year in Oakland for tomatoes, but this one really was awful. Perhaps not one to try in the CA Bay Area. .

Not quite what I expected... Review by 'chelle

This is a very forgiving plant - if you forget to water it and almost kill it, given the proper environment, it will recover. The tomato wasn't really orange, and the purple wasn't really purple. I was disappointed in the shape and size. Thinking I deformed it somehow by trying to kill it, I grew it again this year, and grew the same, sad, tiny, misnamed tomatoes I grew last year. Their flavor isn't much to write home about, either.

Grew them expecting a stunner...purple shoulders were much fainter than the photo shows. Flavour and texture were fine but without the lovely shoulders it's just another average medium orange tomato. .

Not up to expectations Review by Kathy

Grew these in the Sacramento area last summer. It was a slow season for all varieties due to a cooler than normal early summer, but these were the biggest disappointment. Only a faint purple smudge on the very last of the tomatoes. Otherwise most were all orange. Dull flavor and mealy texture. I threw the rest of the seeds away. Loved the picture on the coffee mug though. .
