Beautiful, rustic, and productive Review by Marsha

We loved this tomato! It has beautiful shadings of olive and rust, produces enormous plants which sprawl without staking, producing an enormous quantity of fruits. It produced during our humid winter (we are in the tropics) with no diseases, and is still producing into our hot dry summer. Fleshy, with few seeds, great for drying. Flavor heavy, full, good in salads..

I have grown these every year for a long while now. Everybody loves them, and the appearance is beautiful.
Rich complex flavour, and one of the most prolific.
Totally recommended..

Great! These suckers produced well and tasted great. They were prone to cracking though so you have to watch that. I grew up several and gave the plants away as gifts ans everyone loved them..

INCREDIBLE FLAVOR Review by Unknown

THESE WERE ONE OF THE BEST SELLERS AT THE FARMER'S MARKET. SWEET BLACK TOMATO FLAVOR. ONLY ISSUE IS THEY ARE PRONE TO CRACK (WHEN THEY ARE SUPER RIPE) WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF THE VINE SO I CUT THE WHOLE CLUSTER OFF INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUALLY. I WILL GROW THESE AGAIN..

Black Cherry is a wonderful tasting tomato. It's always one of the favorites of all the varieties I grow with everyone I share it with and it's one of my personal favorites too. The plant is large and very prolific, and I've never had any problems getting them to grow well..

My favorite tomato Review by Nate

If I knew that I would be marooned on an island and could take only one variety of tomato, this would be it! They're beautiful, sweet even before totally ripe, wildly prolific, and totally blow away any of the red cherries that I've grown thus far. The only tomato flavor that comes close for me is Aunt Ruby's German Green, but they're not very prolific..

Best Cherry Tomato Ever! Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

Even in a summer of rainy cool weather, the two Black Cherry tomato plants were overspilling and dragging down their stakes. They yielded tons of sweet, rich tomatoes... probably outproducing any other plant in our garden. The skins split a little when very ripe, but with regular harvesting it wasn't a problem. Their flavor made Sungold taste bland by comparison. We ate them like candy fresh from the garden. Great in salads, but also were surprising useful for cooking. Ovendrying them led to great "sundried" tomatoes, that we are still using in the winter..

Pretty! Review by Sweet Lorretta

After buying a pint of these in the grocery store,(for an arm and a leg), I decided to grow some myself. They are very tasty, the plants are healthy, and the tomatoes are so pretty! My yield has not been as high as I would like, but it's gardener's error. I planted them too late. Texas gets hot quick. Still, to get blemish free tomatoes in July is a blessing..

Black out? Review by Unknown

I grew these and they didn't turn black, or even dark. They were just red. They also grew long and narrow (like a roma) with a pointed end. They were still great. I wonder if I got a seed from another variety as an accident?.

Incredibly sweet with a hint of that smokey flavor of the dark tomatoes. Perfect sweet to acid flavor! Neighbors and friends love it too (when I save them a couple to taste)! I even use them in my tomato sauce- they add great flavor!.

"black" but paste tomato shaped! Review by Thomas C

Overall Rating

This tomato, of which the seeds we got from this company, were not a cherry type at all... they were like a small 2-3 inch paste tomato, with a boxy rectangular shape and blunt end. They were also more of a rusty brown black. Output was PROLIFIC! Trusses of 7-10 fruits on burly 2 inch thick TRUNKS! Also, they took nearly forever to ripen, (80 days+) even when they looked ripe, they were not.. BUT they made a GREAT sauce tomato, and we enjoyed them, but it was not a sweet cherry type we were expecting. Saved lots of seed and will grow again next year, as we are avid canners. We'll order this seed again, and hope for the true type. If I could classify this tomato we grew, it would be closer to the variety Black Plum... seeds get mixed up maybe in the packaging process? Hmmm....

I have grown the black cherry variety for the past 3 years. It will continue to have a spot reserved in my garden. I always grow more plants than I need because I like to share. Everyone that has tried this tomato is instantly addicted! The flavor is so deliciously rich. The plants are productive until frost and require support. My daughter loves these, they are her favorite. I would highly recommend this variety for home gardens. Thank you Baker Creek for offering such a diverse selection of seeds. It feels like Christmas every year when my seed order has been delivered and I get to open it. Happy gardening and thank you to all who read this. P.S. My favorite winter squash Baker Creek offers is Sweet Greek Red! Check it out! Extremely productive, large, perfectly delicious rare butternut squash variety. When cut open smells almost melon like. Very awesome for soups, pies, and simply baking in the oven. OK, I am finished talking about my favorite items in my garden! If you are thinking of buying seed for either one of these you can not go wrong! Good Stuff!.

My favorite cherry tomato. Review by Paul

I love these tomatoes. I've had them grow over 8 feet tall. They are prone to cracking if not heavily mulched and watered regularly. I try to mulch with 6 inches of straw or shredded bark and water twice a week if there is no rain that week..

Mix up on varieties???? Review by Keelie

After reading everyone else's comments and searching the Internet for a photo, I have discovered that the Black Cherry tomatoes that I grew last year were the Black Plum variety. They looked exactly like the photo I found on the Net and excellent producers. However, the taste of the Black Plums were mealy to me. I guess I'll have to order another package of the Black Cherry, so I can give them a try....

Tastes like a long-season big tomato! Plus, they're absolutely beautiful. We loved these for every purpose--salads, sauces, etc. I cut bunches at the end of the season for indoor ripening and was eating them through Thanksgiving..

perhaps not a stable variety? Review by phuffy

Overall Rating

I ordered these tomatoes last year, started them on my porch and shared the seedlings with a handful of friends. We all had the same result, which was not a cherry tomato at all, but a fat brown pear-shaped tomato. Perhaps the size of a golf ball. The flavor was good, but it was not at all what we expected for size and shape!.

Surprise Tomato! Review by Megan

Overall Rating

These have been excellent producers for us this year, but as others have reported, I'm wondering if they aren't quite stable. All of my plans are producing loads of pear shaped "black" tomatoes with green shoulders. Looks a lot like the Japanese Black Trifles but smaller. Very tasty and prolific, no complaints from us. Produced amazingly well even during our unusually hot dry periods.

These were some very delicious, extremely addicting little tomatoes here. Very productive, and the plant just keeps growing, very heat and drought resistant, but best of all - Extremely delicious! Exactly as many others say, the wonders of a purple tomato packed into a little cherry tomato..

best seller hands down Review by sunchine

Overall Rating

Both last year and this year this cherry was the most popular tomato I sell! Very prolific and awesome color and taste and texture. I call them "brown" cherries though, as they are more rust colored than any other black I've ever grown. No matter, sell out amazingly fast and the plants are very easy keepers. Is true about them splitting if they are very ripe on the vine; either cut them off at stem or use the split ones for your personal taste testing. Must make sure your stock is tasty before you sell it, yes? ; ).

Best cherry tomato Review by Paul

Overall Rating

This is my all time favorite cherry tomato. It sells out every time at the local farmer's market and I have lots of requests for plants in the spring. It is one of the easiest tomatoes to grow organically. I have 2 faults with it. It grows over 10 feet tall every year in my highly enriched organic soil and it is prone to cracking if you don't keep it evenly watered. I've had to stack 2 homemade 4 foot tall, 2 foot wide tomato cages on it every year by mid July just to contain its massive growth. The cracking is easy to solve by a deep mulch of straw and grass clippings and drip irrigation. Go easy on the nitrogen with this one or plan on picking with a ladder. .

Tried twice and never liked it Review by Blacktomato

Overall Rating

I gave up on this one. Huge plants full of tomatoes however taste average (to below average) for black ones. I never figured out why these over ripped so fast on the wines and had spoiled taste. This did not happen with any other tomatoes ever before or after. I will not try to grow again..

Really good Review by Cory

Overall Rating

These beautiful tomatoes are so good. The yield from my two plants was outstanding, despite our cool and slightly went Sierra Nevada summer (2011). My two year old would eats loads straight from the plants while we worked in the garden all summer long. No diseases, and no problem with pests. We harvested from July all the way until the end of November. Great little tomato, it will always grow in my garden..

Not my favorite Review by Previse

Vigorous and productive, bearing early and continuing till late fall. Equal to Sweet 100 in all respects except taste. Black Cherry is comparatively bland and pulpy. Not bad, but I think Sweet 100 is a better choice. .

One of my favs Review by TarHeel Ann

Overall Rating

I have grown tomatoes for over a decade and this particular type for at least 6 or 7 years. As it has become one of my absolute favorites, I reserve a space in my garden for the black cherry tomato every season. I like it because it is slightly larger than the regular cherry tomato that most people are accustomed to growing, but for me, it has a richer taste, it is prettier, and it is a bit firmer when cut. I find this plant to be not quite as prolific as some other kinds of cherry tomatoes- but productive enough. Definitely give it a try if you haven't already..

Green tomato Chutney bliss Review by Tammie

Overall Rating

I have grown black cherry tomatoes for many years now. Beyond their ripe stage taste, I found their addition to my green tomato chutney to make this worth planting a few late seedlings JUST for the GREEN tomatoes! They are the key to an amazing green tomato chutney like no other. Their smokey taste shines through even in their unripe stage.
I highly suggest if you had never enjoyed a green tomato chutney before, Try it again using the unripes of this one. Amazing on turkey sandwiches and makes for great hostess & holiday gifts..

good! Review by Shibaz

I grew these last year in homemade "earth box" type containers, on my deck, in the mountains of NM (we're at about 7500 feet in altitude). The were heavy producers, and grew well, and produced largish cherry tomatoes. They do split, as others note, if you leave them on the vine too long, but early picking fixes that problem. I found they were good keepers, too--they produced all summer and when we got a frost in the fall, I picked the green ones an put them away, and they ripened well indoors (if not quite as tasty). I did leave some in a box with newspaper in a very cool spare room and forgot about them, and found them around Christmas, having just turned red! (not tasty, but still, they hadn't rotted!) They are not my favorite in terms of taste, but they're still pretty darn good, and worth growing more this year!.

We have grown these for 2 years (this is the 3rd summer). Once they start producing, they seem to produce right until frost. They are very delicious and we often eat 1/3 of them off the plant before even making it into the house. Oh they are high yielding too! .
