This along with the red version of love-lies bleeding make excellent annuals in a mixed border, annual bed or cutting and kitchen garden. I particularly like the green because it is neutral yet vibrant at the same time. Plants must be staked as the grow because the weight of the flowers are quite heavy and the stems will snap. These may get over 5 feet tall. Since amaranth is an annual grain it usually dies after flowering so do not count on it giving you full season interest. You may prolong the bloom time by cutting it back before the flowers seed but this greatly decreases the quality and structure of the plant. Try in a succession or plant near a late summer blooming plant. I would grow this for years to come/.
