White Belgian (Blanche A Collet Vert) Carrot

CR116

A big, heavy carrot that was once common on many of Europe's small farms, but has now become quite scarce. The long roots are white with green shoulders, and can be used in the kitchen or, as used in the 1800's, as an animal feed. Vilmorin said in 1885, "This is a field carrot par excellence. There is hardly any farm on which it is not grown to some extent for feeding cattle, and especially horses." They also said it was developed from the Long White carrot, which was almost gone from France at that time. Not frost-hardy, but a great old carrot that is perfect for farmers wanting to grow their own feed.

Contains 800 heirloom seeds

We got some of these as a free bonus packet last spring. They were a hot seller at our farmner's market, grew to a good size, were beautiful, and tasted great. A few plants that were planted in June, flowered in late August..

Super Yield of the Biggest Carrots I've Seen! Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

These carrots were a shock. I have never had carrots do so incredibly well. We always have good luck with our carrots, but these were huge, hearty, and prolific.

We even had some go to seed for us, which we have never had happen.

We canned these with our regular tendersweet carrots, and the jars look so beautiful all dk orange and white!.

This was my first year of gardening so of course I was carried away and bought a lot of various colors. This one was the best grower of the five varieties I had and a good flavor too. .

I LOVE THIS CARROT!!!!! Grows really well, gets huge, stores well and is sweet and yummy. I originally grew it for my rabbits to supplement their winter feed but fell in love with it and grow it every year for both the rabbits and us. .

Not so good in drought years Review by Lee in Iowa

Overall Rating

I planted these with high hopes that I would FINALLY get a decent crop of carrots, but we had drought in central Iowa most of the summer and into the fall. My White Belgian carrots were no bigger than my little finger. ;-(.
