Did pretty well :) Review by White Deer

I planted two rows of these in a less than ideal location (shade various times of the day, farthest from the water line). Germination was close to 100%. Stalks grew slowly until I ran a special water line for them, then they shot up to 8 ft. Most stalks set 2 ears, the silks turning a brilliant red when pollination was complete. Ears grew out fat and tasty with a nice sweetness to them. I may plant this again next year, but will give it a better spot. I must say it did quite well under the circumstances..

Disappointing Review by Unknown

This corn grew tall with large ears. We had to break them in half to fit them in the pot! They look delicious but were very disappointing. There was no sweetness or much of any flavor..

very disappointing & disheartening Review by Unknown

I had high expectations for this beautiful looking and growing sweet corn. The end result is milky, bland and tough, not sweet.
This is what the back of the package reads: (in addition to what is written above, near its picture)" Sweet, delicious and milky, tender white kernels on 8"ears." Milky and 8"ears are the only accurate parts.
I have an 80 foot row of inedible corn. Never has this happened in 30 years of growing vegetable gardens.
I would not even give it a rating except the review is not posted without it.
Actually, it could be listed as an ornamental for those who would want to grow corn in the landscape and not eat it.
And I thought heirlooms had deeper, richer flavor and was hoping for a delicious corn I've not yet had to share with others.
I will consider Bakercreek seeds much more carefully..

We, too, had higher hopes for taste than this corn produced. Granted it was a tough gardening year here in NJ with a soggy spring and droughty summer/fall. Not sure what factors contributed to this corn having absolutely zero taste. We have been growing seed from Baker Creek for several years, and in general are quite happy with the results. So I'll just write this one off and try something else. .

I was just passing through here on a whim, but after reading the reviews on Country Gentleman, I felt obliged to add my comment.
Do not write off this heirloom based on the reviews of others. Every climate, location, microclimate, year of rainfall.. any factor you can think of can make a difference to your crop at harvest time.
I found the mature corn to be flavorful and juicy - not sickly sweet like the hybrid 2x and 3x sweet varieties, but tasty - and others agreed who tried it.
If you have the space and the soil to plant corn, what does it hurt to try a packet? You know what? Pigs love corn, as do chickens, so if you don't like the corn, your animals surely will..

shoe peg Review by drduhgylie

Seeing that some very experienced farmers are getting bad results from this variety. You could have a soil different than what is needed for this type of corn. This is unique corn. Best to keep trying with new seeds until you get a suitable taste. Changing your soil a lil' and then keep the seeds yourself. You can also get a bad bag of seeds. This can happen if your getting 125 seeds in a pack. It would be hard for the seed company to detect a drop off in the seed unless they were checking every other cob. This corn is a real buttery sweet when it is perfect. Worth the trouble to spend a few rows a year until it comes in. Then seed some out and put back!.

Satisfied Review by Heirloom

This is our first year of growing sweet corn. Just about every single seed we planted germinated. Stalks grew super fast for us. They are about 9 ft. tall and each one has two ears. We had a very dry summer, so we watered just about every day in Ohio. Trying to figure out exactly when to pick it was difficult, but the ears were mildly sweet. Not large kernels, but enough to satisfy. .

I grew this corn in 2005 and had amazing results. This year I had huge stalks, about 9' tall and about 2 ears per stalk. The corn is not edible. I did everything correct but our summer weather was cool..
