Poona Kheera Cucumber

CU129

60 days. Creamy, light-green fruits; very delicious flesh, crisp, and juicy. Sweet and mild; one of my favorite varieties.
Fruit shaped like a potato, with skin turning brow as they ripen. One of our best varieties that is disease resistant and very hardy. Vines produce early and the yield is very heavy. A wonderful heirloom from India that has become our most asked-for cucumber.

Contains 25-35 heirloom seeds

A Top Choice for Hot Areas Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

Another deliriously happy review for a hot-weather choice. Before I tried Poona Kheera I had never, in my whole life, been able to grow a cuke in 100+ degree summers in CA. Since PK is from India, our heat is no challenge at all. These vines were productive and non-wilting. The cukes were large, crispy and tasty. And I agree with the 1st review: the fruits sat on my counter for months without deteriorating. I suggest harvesting when white to yellow, rather than brown. A++.

Prolific! Beautiful! Crisp! and Tasty! Review by Ben in Omaha

Overall Rating

Great yield and great taste in marginal soil for our first year in this house. As to the skin: it can be a bit firm, though we find that scoring it with a fork leaves it very nice and toothsome. No need to peel :).

kept for 2 weeks on the counter Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

This cucumber should be peeled as it has a tough skin and it does have a lot of seeds.

However, this cucumber, picked white or brown, is crisp, delicious, and never bitter. It's like eating an apple. I did not refrigerate mine and they kept for 2 weeks on the kitchen counter. One family member says she kept some for 4 weeks in the refrigerator..

Excellent Producer Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

We grew this very prolific cucumber on a cattle panel. Once it starts producing, it needs to be checked daily. They're best when about four inches long. They are excellent for fresh eating, and we made bread and butter pickles with them. We will grow them again..

Main cuke grown Review by Unknown

Overall Rating

Poona Kheera cucumber is by far one of the best cukes i have grown here in Missouri. I found it several years ago at Baker Creek and have gown it ever since. It's outstanding qualities include never getting bitter--even in the hottest, dryest summers, (that alone is reason to grow this cuke!) a delicious 'apple crispness' even AFTER it has been picked and sat around awhile. It has a good sweet cuke flavor and can be picked at any stage and still be flavorful. The plant is extremely easy to grow but i do caution about cucumber beetle invasations which bring on wilt diseases. A fantastic variety to grow and enjoy!!.

Amazing Pickles Review by Hill Farmer

Overall Rating

Great producer bearing loads of perfect white cucumbers. We waited too late to pic a few that were huge and russet brown, but didn't want to waste them so we peeled and seeded them, sliced them into spears and pickled them. These were the most amazing pickles that our family ever tasted!.

Great Tasting, heavy producing Poona Keera Cucumbers! Review by Garden Girl

Overall Rating

Here in Georgia, cukes start dying out real quick in the heat, but this plant shows no intentions of giving up soon. Plant is loaded with small cukes and leaves are as green and healthy as if newly planted. It's a great tasting cuke and high yielding and a vibrant plant on this hot July 18th day in the sun! Normally by now we've had to jerk up old plants and replant, but this baby has changed all that! Try it, you won't be disappointed!.

Great little cuke Review by Jonille

I grew them at 7600 feet in the NM mountains. The number of cukes produced was low, but they taste was wonderful. Not even a bit of any bitter taste. I will be growing them again next year..

non bitter cuke Review by dancingfarmer

I've grown cukes on and off for years in my hot 7 zone. Not until this one did we consistantly get non bitter cukes the entire summer. As others have mentioned they last well after picking. Make fabulous hot relish with touch off ginger..

Nothing Short of Fantastic Review by Serval Moon

Overall Rating

Here in the Sonoran desert it's hard to find a truly heat-tolerant cucumber. These hardy vines gave us huge yields of large, delicious, bitter-free cukes even though we planted late in 2011 and had near record heat. We got rave reviews from everyone who tried them. We make our own rich Greek yogurt and these cucumbers make absolutely the best tzatziki. They will be in the garden again this year..
